Pc Activity Info 7:30pm field

The 7:30pm field for all 26 pcs in C/O on Make/Delete reservation is open or the pc is reserved   even though a customer is on a pc.  ie. A customer is on pc from 6:30-8:30.  If you are on the Make/delete screen, the pc is in use from 6:30-7:30, avaialbe 7:30-8pm and in use 8-8:30pm This happened several years ago.  I called Chris at Comprise.  He told me to call him back in 15-20 minutes.  Whatever he did seemed to solve the problem.

#18-23

#18  I tried “Remeber the Milk”.  Where has this been all my computer life. It has everthing I need to try and keep organized in my busy life. I liked that you can put your schedule on a map and it will give you suggestions to help you.  The only thing is that the monitor will not fit into my purse when I go on my errands!!

#19  I googled Web 2.0 arwards. I clicke on the 2008 list.  Many of the !st place winners were ones that we have already explored in this 23 thing exercise.  I played with the Cooking winner:  Im Cooked.   This would be a good sight because their are videoas made by real people that show you how to cook evertything from deviled eggs to a gourmet meal.  ( My daughter has come upon a website similar to you tube (english vervison) that gives instructions for anything that you may want.  Fom knitting to putting on your makeup even putting on contact lenes. )

#20  I looked at widget Box and opera widget.  I really don’t understand what a widget is.  I aske my computer knowledged brother .  He said it is like a clock or a stock ticker that you can add to your desktop in Vista.  Was thingamabob taken?

#21  I have already discovered YouTube a while back.  I enjoy watching the Meanest Cat and the interview with Harvey Pekar.  The best yet is the “Mom song to William Tell Overture

#22 A tool I found was Mediafly  I never seek out podcasts

#23  I looked at a paer written by Jack M Maness from the University Of Colorado At Boulder Libraries.  He says that with the oncoming of Web 2.0,  the technologies that we have been asked to look at in these exercises have a very important  how libraries provide access to their collections and user support forthat access.  We need to be one or two steps ahead of the public.  Once we understand what the computer newounces are, we can then use them to give the public and our staff better service.

Final Thoughts:

Parts of these 23 things I already use, such as Youtube, Facebook and googlemaps.  But I am sure there is more to learn about them.  Some of the other ones that I didn’t know , I found that they can be helpful to me.

I was sort of nervous about doing this exercise. I am not computer savay, like the younger generation of employees.  I wondered why I need to know what a blog is and why I need to know all of this stuff.  But as a part of the library I need to be aware of the fast pace future of what is out there in computerland.  By the time I understand all of this there will be 23 more new things that I need to learn.  So bring it on.   This is sort of like when I was learning the new math and my parents could not help me with my homework.  The only difference is that I am willing to learn or I will sink!!!!

I remember a really floppy disk!!!

#7-17

#7  I have an account with Flickr.  I download some pictures and tagged them.  I was amazed on hat one can do with sites like this.  I just wasn;t sure if I wanted to share my pics with the rest of the world.  I did do some editing of old Cleveland Hts pics for Amy H.  I can see how this would help someone who is searching for a specific  topic.

#8  It took me awhile and some searching to understand what a mashup is.  I didn’t tealize that I wa already doning this when I paste a map onto a doucument.

#9  I have been doingthis for a longtime.  I can get into a lot of trouble when I play my simple card games.  Nothing else seems to get done.  I had a marathon game of Freecell going.  I was on the phone with a long winded friend of mine.  not thinking I clicked on the wrong key and lost the entire game.

#10  LibraryThing is under construction.   OnGood Reads you are able to organize what you have read.  You can see what others have read and their thoughts about the books.  You can also have you own book discussions.  This is a good site for the casual reader as well as the avid one.  It was easy to navigate around.

11  I checked out Pandora.  I like this site because I could create my own list of favorite songs to listen to when I am on my computer.  I like a vast array of music from Elvis, to Ozzy, to Kenny Chesney.  And even Unkle Krackers

#12Wikis are an on going process of creation.  Anyone can edit wity having fancy software.  Many time this is the first thing that comes up on a google search.  It is a point of reference.  It is sort of like the World Book.  The only thing that anyone can write on to it so don’t take it as the gospel truth!
#13  I found this boring.   It was like a news page.  I am not inerested in reading about anyones blog.
#14  I use google maps all the time.  I like to use the ariel site and drag around to see where I have been and where I am going.
#15  Just another site to post and blog
#16  I already have  an account on  Facebbok.   I again nervous about this site for the reasons that have been said about My Space.  Who knows what is on the other end.  I just hope whoever is on the othr end is telling the truth like I am.  One good thing about sites is I am "friends" with  my new cousin.  So he posted his weeding album on his facebook.  I was able to view it along with some of his honeymoon pictures.  Otherwise I would never have seen them.
#17  Allows you to organize your bookmarks and stuff.  Tagging can catalog you stuff.

thing 6

I logged into Google blog search.  The first blog that I could think of was Martha Stewart!!!!  I cut and pasted her blog into bloglines and subscribe to her blog.  Boy just think of what I may learn from this.  Since Martha served her time she has come down to my level.

Thing 5

I just learned about RSS.  This is a handy way to have the blogs come to you.  I will probably subscribe to bloglines.com since I don’t have gmail.  I plan on making a copy of the tutorial to keep for reference.

Techno site

I subscribe to a great website www.kimkomando.com   She has a radio program but we can not get it in the Cleveland area.  Everyday I get her newsletter.  There is some goodinformation about computers.  She also has a daily website to check out.  Some of them are quite interesting.

Also check out www.libraryelf.org  This is one way to keep track of what is on your library card

Good Morning CHUHPL

This is my first blog so bear with me.  Once you think that you understand the new computer stuff, something else comes along.  and it’s coming faster and faster.  You know what they say about teaching an old dog new tricks!!!!

Pc #626 Community Office

When a customer is logged into #626 in the Lee Road Community Office, their library card or one day pass # does not show on the PC Activity Manager page.  It does show that their time on the PC information screen.  I noticed this when a customer was on the pc.  When they got off, I logged in with my library card number.  The samething happened.  I logged on the pc  with several other family cards and one day passes.  None of the numers showed in the Library workstations side of the Activity Manager screen.

I spoke to Uhsa at Comprise about 4:45pm.  She said she would call back.
